Long Lake Trails in the snow

January 29, 2024 by Mike Harvey 3 Comments

Today was a brisk day on the trials at Long Lake, but it was also rewarding to capture people enjoying the park during a snow storm. Have a look at the video and Like and Share it, to help us promote the park.

See what the park was like during Mondays snow storm.

It is lovely skiing in the park off Dunbrack but it is really difficult to park. Wish someone would clear a bit of a parking space.

    Hi there,
I’ve been wondering for years why the parking lot off Dunbrack is gated all winter until official opening. I understand that it is not likely ploughed or maintained during those months but there are many times the parking lot is clear throughout our mild winter months and everyone is forced to dangerously cram their vehicles into that small space ( legally or not?) ahead of the gate. Can’t you post signs instead, indicating the parking area is not maintained during XYZ months and to use at own risk and expense? I noticed a sign by HRM indicating this exact sentiment recently at another green space.

      Hi Sally

We at LLPPA have to follow the rules of Provincial Park Management, all provincial park parking lots are closed for the winter months and not maintained, we must follow those rules. Opening and not maintaining the lots would open us (LLPPA and or the province) to liability, even if we posted signs.
People getting stuck in the snow could also damage the surface of the parking lot, to which we do not have the funds to repair.

      thanks for asking. Cheers LLPPA
