Many people in the nearby communities seem not yet aware of these new trails around Wathrod Lake and Long Lake. Maybe the LLPPA can organize a hiking event in the park so people can know better not only these walking trails but also many of the (mostly hidden) foot paths leading to the lake shore lines. Meanwhile it may also serve as a cleanup event and repairs of some of the broken foot bridges. This long weekend (Sunday or Monday) is perfect if not too soon!
We been To the park twice and won’t return because the gravel is too rough. If it’s a base then the 2-3 stone is fine… Will crusher dust be laid at some point? We couldn’t walk our dog and the large stones blew a tire out in my bike! C’ mon people lets get it together and construct a proper walkway/path. If it is supposed to be like point pleasant as indicated then you better lay some crusher dust for all proper path.
I agree with Mike. I am not a jogger but this kind of trail cannot be good for their knees and feet. I have a dog that despises the trail because of the roughness and I’m sure it isn’t good for the footwear either. I would definitely assist in laying of mulch or crusher dust in the future.

Yes, the LLPPA are currently testing smaller sizes of gravel on small patches of the trail to see what would be most suitable. The hope is that the trail will be re-covered as soon as possible this season. Even in the few months since the trail opened, the trail surface has settled quite a bit, making it easier to walk on (esp. on the Witherod Lake loop). Please feel free to come back and give it a try when you get the chance.

Hi there. Just wanted to second the comment on the trail surface. This was very hard on our dogs feet and noticed some other dogs struggling as well. Is there a plan for crusher dust or some other surface on top of what is there?
The trail map looks great. The map shows “Future connection to St. Margaret Bay area”. I always wonder when this connection is to be built. The current trail (5 km) is a bit short; it will be great to extend to St. Margaret Bay Road and further connected to the COLT and BLT trails.

The trail is going to be extended along Old Sambro Rd later this summer, which will lengthen the trail system quite a bit. The St. Margaret Bay area connection is further off on the horizon, but definitely in the works! The ultimate goal is to have a complex Long Lake trail system which is also connected to the Chain of Lakes. Hope this information is helpful to you.

It’s July 2019 and the Old Sambro extension isn’t there yet… any plans to do this?

The extension along Old Sambro was done it now leads from our main parking lot to Dentith road, near the dam. There are no other trails planned in a southerly direction. There are hopes in the future to hook into the St Margarets trail, but not this year.

Just discovered the park today. The map would be more useful with a scale or some other way of indicating distance. I had no idea what. I was undertaking in terms of time or distance. I agree with other commentators about the size of the rocks.

I’m glad you discovered Long Lake! It’s still a bit of a hidden gem. Thank you for your feedback about the map — we will definitely take it into consideration. The maps that are currently posted at trail junction points are temporary, and we are in the midst of drafting a new version with a scale, “You are here” mark, more labels, etc. Hope you’ll come visit the park again soon.

I have enjoyed walking around Withrod Lake several times and enjoyed this new park. Thank you! Although the there are statements about a trail around Long Lake, I do not find any map or description of the future trail. Am I right that there is one planned?
Yes as others have asked, please please do correct the problem of gravel pieces that are way too large…
First time on the Withrod lake trail today. Absolutely lovely – thank you so much for this lovely trail. The hard packed snow made for easy walking and kind to dog paws.
