Volunteer Treasurer – Long Lake Provincial Park Association
Position Type: Volunteer
Location: Spryfield/Halifax
Time Commitment: ~5-10 hours/month
Term: 1–2 years (renewable)
Role Overview:
The Treasurer is a key member of the Long Lake Provincial Park Association’s Board of Directors,
responsible for managing the organization’s finances in a transparent, accurate, and ethical manner.
This includes overseeing budgeting, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with all
applicable regulations for registered societies in Nova Scotia.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records
Prepare and present financial statements to the board (monthly or quarterly)
Oversee annual budgeting process in collaboration with the board
Manage bank accounts and monitor cash flow
Ensure compliance with financial policies and relevant legislation (e.g., CRA requirements)
File annual returns and financial documents as required by provincial or federal authorities
Support fundraising and grant application processes with financial data
Participate in board meetings and contribute to governance decisions
Qualifications:
Experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or financial management
Strong organizational and analytical skills
Commitment to environmental conservation and community involvement is an asset
Prior board or non-profit experience is also an asset
