There is always plenty to do at Long Lake Provincial Park. Here are some before and after images from today (September 21st 2023) of work to keeps signs visible and fix potholes. Work like this is needed almost daily through the summer.
It took one pensioner using hand tools about four hours to complete the work shown below, including taking photos and walking there and back with a wheelbarrow. A few hours of volunteer time can make a difference!
Cleaning up litter, repairing trails, trimming grass, mending benches, routine patrols and talking with visitors are just a few of the things that Long Lake park volunteers do. Board volunteers are also kept busy making plans for the future and communicating with provincial staff and with political representatives.
Long Lake Provincial Park Association needs more volunteers. Our recent survey of opinions of park users revealed many concerns about the park as well as eliciting many ideas about potential improvements to the park. None of these can be addressed without volunteer help.
If you would like to help make our park even more enjoyable and welcoming, please get in touch! We need your help. Volunteers can sign up at https://longlakepark.ca/news/?page_id=439

About month ago I was able to remove the graffiti on the benches. It took about an hour and 1/2. The wood was soft that day because of the rain. I scraped some away with a chisel and sanded to smooth it a bit.
Did anyone ever determine who the Irish Invincibles are (it was the signature on the graffiti) or who they represent. It was a protest for affordable housing supposedly.

That’s wonderful! Thankyou very much for your work! We noticed that someone had cleaned up the graffiti but didn’t know who. Regarding the Irish Invincibles, I think their affordable-housing message is deserved but posting it on a park bench risks turning people away from the message. We don’t know who they are.

I agree, they have an important message on housing. Perhaps it was made by those who camped in the park summer 22.
Unfortunately their tent on the path adjacent to the narrow cove on the eastern side had collapsed over the winter. Everything was was soaked and ruined. If this is not cleaned up yet I would gladly help if a couple of other people were interested. Getting all the soaked debris i.e. sleeping bag to a pick up spot would take a while. I’ve thought of using a wheel barrow once its carried out to the main trail.
