Long Lake Provincial Park is well described at this Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Lake_Provincial_Park_(Nova_Scotia)
Finding information about Long Lake on the web can be confusing because there are a lot of lakes in Canada named “Long Lake”. Three examples of this confusion are:
(a) There is a Long Lake Provincial Park in Alberta. Some people have mistakenly posted photographs taken in Alberta on webpages about Long Lake park in Nova Scotia.
(b) There is a Long Lake Nature Reserve in Nova Scotia’s Lunenburg County https://novascotia.ca/nse/protectedareas/nr_longlake.asp. Some people have referred to Long Lake Provincial Park as a “park reserve” but this is an error. Long Lake Provincial Park is fully designated as a provincial park under the provincial Parks Act.
(c) There is a small lake called Long Pond lying close to Herring Cove Road between the communities of Spryfield and Herring Cove. Long Pond and Long Lake are not related. They lie in different watersheds.
Long Lake Provincial Park was created in 1984 by a decision of the Cabinet of the Government of Nova Scotia. The Long Lake Provincial Park Association (LLPPA) is a non-profit community group that was created in 1987 in response to the creation of the park. The mandates of LLPPA are to encourage conservation of the park’s natural values and engagement of local citizens in the park’s management. LLPPA has had several successes in this regard, including creation of a management plan for the park and improved public access to the park.
