Do you love Long Lake Park? Do you want to keep it clean, keep it going, or help to make it better? Then we want to hear from you!
The Long Lake Provincial Park Association relies on volunteers to keep the park running, from the day-to-day tasks of garbage collection and trail/bench maintenance, to the larger projects such as developing new trails, public relations, and event management. The LLPPA is looking for a few motivated individuals to take on a few important roles, most notably that of treasurer, as our current treasurer is retiring from the board after several years of service. We are also looking for people to help manage our Adopt-A-Bench program, as well as our 50/50 draws. And lastly, we are looking for someone to help manage our social media profile, and coordinate volunteers for various events and projects. Contact us on our Facebook page if you think you or someone you know would be a good fit for one of these roles!
If none of these roles seem like a good fit, then we have another, much simpler proposal for you. Now that the garbage cans are gone and our park abides by a Pack-In/Pack-Out philosophy, we all must work together to keep the park clean, so the next time you come to the park, be it to walk your dog, to go for a jog, or to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the trails, we would like you to pause along the way to pick up and take out just one more piece of litter, something that someone else left behind. This could be anything from a discarded Tim’s cup, to a dog poop bag, or anything in between. Take that litter, bring it home, and dispose of it properly. That’s it!
Remember, if every park visitor took home just one more piece of litter, nobody would have to take out bags and bags of garbage. This is everyone’s park, and Many Hands Make Light Work, so let’s work together to keep this park beautiful!
Hello before i came here i did look around to see how to contact someone, as well as looking at the Department of Natural Resources web site. The reason I’m contacting is to report people camping on the lake edge of Long Lake Park (dunbrack street). I usually wouldn’t get into this type of thing but the garbage and campfires are evident of them being there more than over night. Campfires being the scary part as myself and other users who walk the park would hate to lose this precious city park.
I previously worked with DNR and contacted a coworker who’s son is now working with Parks and he recently had to remove tents at Gerry Lawrence Park. Perhaps Long Lake could get assistance from DNR?
Have a great summer.
