AGM Announcement, Keeping the Park Clean

April 23, 2022 by Jean-Paul Deveaux 4 Comments

Our Annual General Meeting will be taking place on Wednesday, May 25th, 2022, at 6:00pm at the Captain William Spry Community Centre in Spryfield. All are welcome; if you are going to attend, please let us know so that we can be sure to have enough chairs set up, etc. If anyone is interested in participating in our AGM virtually, let us know and we will try our best to accommodate you.

Also, big thanks to our park visitors for helping to keep the park clean, in particular the members of the Rotary Club of Halifax Northwest who organized today’s community cleanup!  Despite the garbage cans having been removed, we’re still seeing a number of dog poop bags accumulating in the park (and in the trees?), although we know that many of our park visitors have heard us. The transition to being a garbage-can-free park will be difficult for the first while. We will be installing additional signage, and engaging with park visitors in various ways to ensure that our message is getting through. Most importantly, we will soon be enlisting new volunteers to share the in the joy of helping to regularly clean up the park. We will be providing more information on this program in the coming days. It’s our park, so let’s work together to keep it clean!

Who is responsible for the outhouses and garbage removal at the park? I was at the Dunbrack access point today and it’s a mess!

I was near the outhouses at the Dunbrack access today and there was lots of garbage around. Also garbage is being left at various points along the trails. What a shame. Will the pack in/pack out approach be reconsidered? Perhaps better signage about that approach is needed. Also the map signage throughout the park is sorely in need of replacement. This park is a gem in the City.

      Hi E Shaw

We will have the area cleaned up, we will not be reconsidering the pack in and pack out as we do not have the funding to do garbage pickup on the scale we used to .
Park users can support the park by helping to pickup what people leave behind and by supporting out fundraising raffles.
