While most of Nova Scotia’s day-use parks officially closed<\/a> on October 12th this year (2023), Long Lake Provincial Park and a few others that are managed by volunteer community groups still have open gates. The weekend of October 14th and 15th was specially busy at Long Lake Provincial Park. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Harness Dog Sports Event<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Maritime Association of Harness Dog Sports<\/a> held their annual Long Lake event on Saturday October 14th. The event is of one of several “canicross races” held around the Maritimes. Both the humans and the dogs had a good time. A Youtube video<\/a> of Saturday’s races at Long Lake captures the spirit of this sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walk To Remember<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

October 15th of each year is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day<\/a> in Canada. This special remembrance day is officially recognized in Nova Scotia<\/a> and in Halifax. A well-attended remembrance walk was held at Long Lake Provincial Park on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some “events” are not official<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While the organizers of both of the events described above obtained permission from both the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables (official) and the Long Lake Provincial Park Association (community volunteers), some “events” are unofficial but interesting. Two vehicles which had travelled from Europe appeared at the Long Lake parking lot on Saturday: one from Switzerland and the other from Germany. It seems that the fame of Long Lake Park is spreading!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
